Fourth Training for Small Tourism Establishments’ Owners and Managers
A total of 11 owners and managers of small tourism establishments received their Certificates of Attendance on Thursday 9th May 2019, after completing a 4 day training session. The training which started on Monday 6th May 2019 was organised in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA).
Speaking at the Certificate presentation ceremony, the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Mrs Anne Lafortune, expressed her appreciation over the fact that small establishment owners are taking the opportunity to make use of training opportunities being offered to them. This is a positive step towards ensuring that visitors coming to our shores will benefit towards high standards and good service delivery. Eventually, the Department of Tourism is planning to make this training a pre-requisite for all those wishing to obtain a license for small tourism establishments.
Mrs. Louise Testa, a representative from the SHTA, congratulated the participants for completing the training on behalf of the Chairperson of the SHTA. She also extended an invitation for all participants to join the association.
The participants were satisfied with the training. They took the opportunity to put forth a recommendation for the Department of Tourism to consider including a module on creole cuisine which is an important element in our culture to offer to guests. The Department will commence discussion with the Seychelles Tourism Academy to assess feasibility of this proposal.
Four trainings have taken place since its launch in September 2018. There are 72 participants to date from Mahé, Praslin and La Digue who have benefitted from this training.
