{"id":6484,"date":"2022-10-24T11:53:30","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T07:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tourism.gov.sc:443\/?p=6484"},"modified":"2022-10-24T11:53:31","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T07:53:31","slug":"seychelles-crowned-the-29th-annual-world-travel-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tourism.gov.sc\/?p=6484","title":{"rendered":"Seychelles crowned the 29th annual World Travel Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Seychelles was acclaimed as the \u2018Indian Ocean&#8217;s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2022\u2019 during the 29th annual World Travel Awards,\u00a0which was hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday, 15th October 2022.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>The destination scooped three additional titles including the \u2018Indian Ocean\u2019s Leading Cruise Destination 2022\u2019, Seychelles\u2019 Port Victoria winning the \u2018Indian Ocean\u2019s Leading Cruise Port\u2019 and Air Seychelles winning the \u2018Indian Ocean\u2019s Leading Airline\u2019.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>To receive such prestigious recognitions at one of the most esteemed awards ceremonies in the travel and tourism industry is a triumph for the country. Celebrated as one of the most outstanding destinations in the region, the Seychelles Islands offers magical experiences to the thousands of visitors that travel to its shores every year.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Speaking about the accolades, Mrs Bernadette Willemin, the Director General for Destination Marketing, stated that she is proud to see Seychelles continue to flourish as a destination.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cWe are undeniably proud of our achievements; romance and cruises remain two important segments for the industry. Among the thousands of visitors yearly, Seychelles also receives a large majority of couples that come to celebrate their love in a\u00a0remote tropical paradise.\u00a0Our shores have witnessed countless fairytale-like engagements, weddings and honeymoons. We are humbled to be associated with the greatest feeling in the world,\u201d said Mrs Willemin.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Upholding their title, in 2021, the archipelago was named by the World Travel Award as the most romantic destination in the world and the best honeymoon destination in the Indian Ocean.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>Seychelles competed against other world-class Indian Ocean destinations such as Maldives and Mauritius.\u00a0To be awarded the honour of the ultimate romantic getaway consecutively is a clear marker of the destination\u2019s commitment to excellence.\u00a0<br>On her part, the principal secretary for Tourism, Mrs Sherin Francis, dedicated the awards to the local trade partners.\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cIt is with great honour that Seychelles accepts these four World Travel Award recognitions.\u00a0I would like to thank all our partners who work diligently to keep our destination deserving of the standards they set.
