Constance Ephelia Resort Makes History as First-Ever Recipient of the Sustainable Seychelles Platinum Award

In a groundbreaking moment for sustainable tourism in Seychelles, Constance Ephelia Resort has been crowned with the inaugural Sustainable Seychelles Platinum Award, the highest recognition for excellence in sustainability. The award was presented during the prestigious Sustainable Seychelles Recognition & Certification Ceremony, held at Eden Bleu Hotel on April 3rd, where the nation’s leading eco-conscious tourism establishments were celebrated.

This newly introduced elite distinction is reserved for businesses that have consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication to sustainability, exceeding rigorous benchmarks in environmental conservation, social responsibility, and economic resilience. Reserved for establishments that have been certified for over a decade, establishments aspiring to the Platinum award must also have consistently improved during each recertification cycle and achieved over 90% of the total sustainability score.

Constance Ephelia Resort’s unwavering commitment to eco-friendly practices, community engagement, and sustainable development made them a standout recipient, setting an unprecedented benchmark for the industry.

Their achievement marks a significant milestone in Seychelles’ sustainable tourism journey, serving as an inspiration for other establishments to strive for the highest standards in responsible travel. With this win, Constance Ephelia cements its reputation as a leader in sustainability, reinforcing Seychelles’ position as a global advocate for sustainable tourism.

Uniquely nestled between the pristine beauty of Port Launay Marine National Park, the Port Launay Mangrove Wetland, and the Morne Seychellois National Park, Constance Ephelia Seychelles offers a one-of-a-kind eco-luxury experience. Once a coconut plantation and later a boarding school, the site was thoughtfully developed into a resort between 2008 and 2010. Spanning 120 hectares of land, and located on two of Mahé’s most picturesque beaches, the resort is surrounded by rare and vibrant vegetation, seamlessly integrating into the island's landscape.

In accepting the award, General Manager Stéphane Duchenne described sustainability as a core value of the resort, “We accept this Platinum Award with great humility. At Constance Ephelia, sustainability is more than a policy—it is our way of life. Being located within a protected mangrove area and near the Port Launay Marine Park places a special responsibility on us, one that we take very seriously.”

He went on to highlight the resort’s initiatives noting, “From the beginning, our team has worked hand-in-hand with local NGOs and schools to restore the mangroves. We’ve involved every department of the hotel in sustainability efforts, because we believe environmental awareness must be lived—not just taught. This award belongs to the entire team.”

At the heart of Constance Ephelia Seychelles is a deep commitment to preserving its natural surroundings with minimal disturbance to the ecosystem. This commitment is not only evident in the resort’s design and operation but also in its approach to sustainable tourism. The resort has long been a pioneer in sustainable hospitality, proving that luxury and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Now, with the prestigious Sustainable Seychelles Platinum Award, the resort has earned well-deserved recognition for its more than a decade-long dedication to sustainability, setting a new standard for eco-conscious tourism in the Seychelles.

Since 2013, Constance Ephelia has been pushing the boundaries of what it means to be truly sustainable. Sustainability at the resort is more than a trend—it’s a way of life, embedded into every aspect of its operation. From energy-efficient appliances and water-saving devices to the elimination of over 200,000 plastic bottles each year through their in-house water bottling and desalination plant, Constance Ephelia Seychelles demonstrates that luxury does not have to come at the expense of nature.

The resort’s Sustainable Management Plan, aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), further underscores its commitment. Driven by a dedicated leadership team, sustainability is interwoven into the guest experience. Visitors are invited to partake in eco-friendly activities like nature hikes, mangrove tours, and sustainability talks, enriching their stay while learning about the importance of preserving the Seychelles' rich biodiversity.

Beyond its operations, Constance Ephelia Seychelles has consistently supported the local community, promoting Seychelles' cultural heritage by offering authentic Seychellois cuisine, providing platforms for local artists, and ensuring ethical business practices that respect the island’s culture. The resort is also actively involved in protecting the environment, rehabilitating coastal vegetation, preserving endemic species, and supporting coral restoration projects.

Through efforts like these, Constance Ephelia is not only reducing its environmental footprint but is also ensuring that its impact on the surrounding ecosystems and communities is positive and sustainable for years to come. Their ongoing commitment to minimising carbon emissions, reducing waste, and conserving water sets them apart as leaders in responsible tourism.

As the Sustainable Seychelles Platinum Award becomes an annual tradition, the Tourism Department encourages all tourism establishments across Seychelles to embrace sustainability as a core value. By adopting eco-friendly practices and engaging in community-driven initiatives, they can contribute to preserving the natural wonders of the Seychelles while creating a positive impact on the global tourism industry.
