Tourism Seychelles Reassures Visitors That Seychelles Remains a Safe Holiday Destination

Tourism Seychelles wishes to reassure all visitors and travel partners that Seychelles remains a safe, welcoming, and secure holiday destination.

Following recent communication from the Public Health Authority regarding the seasonal presence of mosquito-borne illnesses such as chikungunya and dengue, Tourism Seychelles confirms that the situation continues to be closely monitored by national health authorities. These illnesses are not contagious and are transmitted only through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The Public Health Authority has further indicated that the number of people reporting symptoms such as fever and rash has dropped significantly in recent weeks, due to a combination of factors including strengthened mosquito control measures, increased public awareness, and seasonal conditions. This decline reflects the effectiveness of the ongoing preventive actions currently in place. It is worth noting that there has not been any hospitalisation as a result of the infection.

There are no travel restrictions in place, and tourism establishments and services across the islands continue to operate normally.

Visitors are encouraged to take simple and effective precautions to ensure a comfortable and worry-free stay. Recommended measures include:

Applying mosquito repellent regularly, particularly during early morning and late afternoon
Wearing long-sleeved clothing when in places with a high presence of mosquitoes
Staying in screened or air-conditioned accommodations
Visitors are encouraged to avoid areas with dense vegetation and around standing waters, where mosquitoes tend to be active
Following advice provided by accommodation providers

“Tropical destinations may experience seasonal mosquito activity, particularly after rainfall, and Seychelles is no exception. The current situation is being closely monitored and remains under control. We are encouraged by the significant decline in reported cases in recent weeks. We want visitors to enjoy all that Seychelles has to offer with confidence, and by following a few simple precautions, travelers can continue to experience our islands safely,” said Mrs Sherin Francis, Principal Secretary for Tourism.

Visitors are also advised to remain aware of possible symptoms associated with mosquito-borne illnesses, which may include fever, headache, joint or muscle pain, fatigue, and in some cases, skin rash. Anyone experiencing symptoms is encouraged to seek prompt medical attention at local clinics or healthcare facilities, where professional medical support is readily available.

Seychelles remains a welcoming and safe destination, supported by world-class tourism establishments, friendly communities, and robust public health and safety systems, with the well-being of residents and visitors as a top priority. The well-being of both residents and guests remains at the heart of national priorities, and since January, enhanced efforts to control mosquito populations reflect a shared commitment to protecting public health and keeping the islands clean and safe for everyone.
