Tourism Seychelles Launches “Sun, Sea & Spice” to Elevate Creole Cuisine as a Global Gastronomic Experience

Tourism Seychelles has launched Sun, Sea & Spice: The Magic of Seychelles Creole Cuisine, a limited-edition cookbook designed to spotlight the islands’ rich culinary heritage and strengthen Seychelles’ positioning as a leading gastronomic destination.

The publication was unveiled on Friday, 27 February 2026, at the Tourism Department Headquarters in the presence of the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Amanda Bernstein, the Principal Secretary for Tourism, Mrs. Sherin Francis and project contributors.

Curated by the Tourism Seychelles Content Creation Management Unit in collaboration with Grandma’s Savoir Faire, renowned home cooks who keep tradition alive at Domaine Val de Pres through their traditional cooking classes, the book brings together 50 traditional and contemporary recipes that capture the depth and diversity of Seychellois Creole cuisine.

“This cookbook is our way to elevate Seychellois Creole cuisine to its rightful place,” said Minister Bernstein. “Our cuisine tells the story of our history, our diversity and our deep connection to the land and sea. Through Sun, Sea & Spice: The Magic of Seychelles Creole Cuisine, we are inviting the world to experience Seychelles through its flavours.”

Blending cultural insight with practical cooking guidance, the cookbook features starters, main dishes, soups, salads, sauces, chutneys, desserts and beverages, with clear instructions suitable for both first-time cooks and experienced chefs.

More than a collection of recipes, the publication serves as a strategic destination marketing tool. It positions Seychellois Creole cuisine and the destination brand beyond its renowned beaches and turquoise waters, highlighting the African, European and Asian cultural influences that have shaped Seychellois cuisine over generations.

Produced as a premium keepsake, Sun, Sea & Spice: The Magic of Seychelles Creole Cuisine will be available for sale locally, allowing residents and visitors to recreate the islands’ signature dishes at home.

With this new release, Tourism Seychelles adds flavour to its global marketing efforts, inviting travellers not only to see Seychelles, but to taste it.

The project united the expertise of Seychellois chefs with the skills of home cooks and cultural advocates through Grandma’s Savoir Faire. Each participant contributed signature dishes and personal stories drawn from lived experiences, creating a body of collective knowledge that authentically reflects the islands’ evolving culinary culture.

Grandma’s Savoir Faire: Cooking and Crafts is a twice-weekly immersive cultural experience held at Domaine de Val des Près, located about 16 kilometers from Victoria. The experience gives participants the opportunity to explore traditional Seychellois cooking and crafts under the guidance of knowledgeable local grandmothers, who generously share their skills, techniques, and cultural heritage.
